Sponsoring an Impoverished Child through Compassion International

Paul Wingfield is a well-established Christian pastor who preaches with White Flag Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Involved in missions that extend worldwide, Pastor Paul Wingfield and his family recently spent time in Ecuador paying visits to children sponsored through Compassion International

Focused on releasing children from lives of poverty, Compassion International relies on monthly donations of $38 per child to enabled holistic, Christ-centered development. Local staff members maintain close contact with individual children and personally ensure that they receive educational and hygiene guidance. Children may receive additional assistance such as health care and supplementary food.

Sponsored children also gain tools of faith, as they participate in church-based programs that offer guidance from Christian adults and take part in monitored recreational activities. They are tutored in their homework and may participate in literacy programs outside of school. In many cases, sponsoring families and the families of those sponsored join together in unifying prayer.

Youth Programs at White Flag Church

A graduate of Johnson Bible College, Paul Wingfield holds a bachelor’s degree in youth ministry and preaching and a master’s degree in New Testament. Paul Wingfield applies his training and experience as a youth pastor to serve as lead pastor of White Flag Christian Church in St. Louis, Missouri.

White Flag offers a number of student ministries, including Momentum for junior high school students and Epic for high school students. Every Wednesday night during the school year, Momentum students come together for dinner, games, and Bible study. Momentum also gathers on Sundays at 9 a.m. for Bible study, which is followed by small group meetings where students talk about what they gleaned from the lesson.

The Epic program meets on Tuesday nights for dinner and Bible study in a relaxing, encouraging environment. Epic students also get together on Sunday morning at 10:45 for Bible teaching and small group meetings.

The goal of both the Momentum and Epic programs is to help students see themselves as God sees them while learning to love others as God loves them.

Making an Impact in Ecuador

Paul Wingfield, the pastor of White Flag Church in St. Louis, Missouri, has been in ministry since 1995. White Flag Church greatly values worldwide efforts to spread the love of Christ, and in a partnership with Compassion International and Stadia Church Planting, has raised money to support the construction of a new church in Ecuador. As a pastor, Paul Wingfield recently had the opportunity to observe the work taking place in Ecuador.

Compassion International, a Christian organization that advocates for children around the world, works with local churches to help alleviate the negative effects of spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty. In conjunction with Stadia Church Planting, efforts are underway to build a church in Santa Elena, a small coastal town in Ecuador.

Many children in Ecuador suffer from the effects of poverty, abuse, and neglect. Compassion International has had a presence in Ecuador since 1974 and currently serves more than 70,000 children in the country.

Through Compassion International’s sponsorship programs, children receive academic and spiritual education, healthy meals, and health care. With the assistance the organization provides, children who would normally have very little hope can experience the love of Christ and grow into healthy adults.
